Welcome to Future Broadway

Future Broadway is a public outreach effort to identify concerns and opportunities to make the Broadway-Weidler corridor better for all users — pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.  We'll provide updates about upcoming events you can participate in to help make Broadway Weidler safer and friendlier for all users.

Future Broadway is organized by the neighborhoods and business associations along the Broadway Weidler corridor in NE Portland. Our focus area is NE 7th to 37th Ave but if you have thoughts about other parts of the corridor or feeder streets feel free to raise them as well.  Start by taking our survey - click on the link to the right.

This is a moderated public discussion blog.  We want people to express a variety of opinions and views.  Profanity and abusive or disrespectful language will not be tolerated.  Please keep the dialog respectful, civil, and constructive.

  1. I mostly use Broadway and Weidler as roads to drive my car to get to other places. I think both streets work well to move cars quickly. While it would be nice to have more variety of retail on Broadway and Weidler, it is not that important to me personally. Closures like Chocolate Factory and Prime Steak and Appleby may suggest that it is difficult for businesses to do well.
The only stores I use regularly on or adjacent to these streets are Safeway Family Dollar Burger King Taco Bell Chipolte Subway LA Fitness and Fred Meyers. Each of these has off street parking or have drive-thru service which I use, meaning that even though I patronize these stores I don't use the sidewalks. Also, each of these is a national chain, not a local business. So although part of me likes the notion of vibrant locally owned street life, I don't live that way.
